Who we are and what we do
Gisbornenet is a Dunedin-based consulting practice focused on strategy, operations, and organisational transformation.
Gisbornenet was founded in Dunedin, New Zealand, to address a specific gap in the consulting market: organisations that needed the quality of thinking associated with large international firms, but without the impersonal delivery model and the overhead that comes with it. We work with private sector organisations, publicly listed companies, and public-sector bodies that are navigating complex decisions — entering new markets, restructuring operations, managing post-merger integration, or responding to significant shifts in their competitive environment. Our clients are typically led by executives who have a clear sense of what they want to achieve but need an external perspective to challenge assumptions, pressure-test plans, and sequence the change effectively. We do not conduct market research on behalf of clients, provide legal or financial advisory services, or manage technology implementation projects — our discipline is organisational strategy and the processes that connect strategy to execution.

Gisbornenet has completed more than 60 consulting engagements since 2017, across sectors including logistics, infrastructure, professional services, local government, and tertiary education. Every engagement follows the same core architecture: a rigorous diagnostic phase, a structured analysis, a recommendations workshop, and a transition to implementation support or handover. What distinguishes us is not the framework — it is the quality of the judgment applied inside it. We approach every mandate from a slate-professional standpoint: disciplined, evidence-first, and direct about findings even when those findings are uncomfortable. We believe the most valuable thing a consultant can do is tell a leadership team what the data actually says, not what they were hoping to hear. Our team maintains active engagement with New Zealand's business and policy community, which keeps our thinking current and grounded in local realities rather than imported assumptions. We are transparent about what consulting can and cannot achieve: we provide the insight, the design, and the implementation architecture — the sustained execution is yours, and its success depends on your organisation's commitment as much as our recommendations.
